Waking up at 1035, I went to facebook to check my millionaire city game. Sean (CQ) invited me to join and since I am being unproductive by dotaing and watching drama everyday, I decided to help him out because he used to help me out with stores and standing in COS. Then I realised that the results are out… I immediately went to UTAS eStudentCentre to check my results.

!@#!@#%#^#$^#%!@#!$ My results were the worst to date. I got 2 credits for BEA286 Investment Analysis and BEA242 Introduction to Econometrics. I got a distinction for BEA325 Prices and Profits and a high distinction for BEA200 Intermediate Microeconomics. I scored a HD on the supposedly hardest unit to understand, and a C on the easiest unit to understand(Investment Analysis), what the hell is that? and 2 credits at the same time…the only silver lining of this whole episode was that my GPA still stayed above 6 (average of 75% overall).

It’s time to pull up my socks. I had been aiming for a 6.5 GPA from the start, which means I need to get an average of 81.25% for each unit. Given that my GPA is slightly above 6, it means I need to score GPA of 7, or 87.5% for the rest of my 12 units! I need to study the actual way instead of the last-min mugging way.

Theres actually 2 different ways I know of regarding studying.

The first way is to read through the materials before lectures, attend the lectures and workshops and then revise at home. Before exams, search for online exam paper, do all and double check with lecturers, ensure questions are relevant. This is very time consuming but tends to give a result above 90%; an effective way of studying.

The second way, which has been the one I have been using for the past 18 months, is to download lecture and workshop slides from MyLO, read through, understand, memorise workshop answers, do internal assessment, do past year exam paper and memorise the answers as well as studying on the thories that has not come out in the unit. This way is very efficient, but tends to give a result of 75%(1 out of 4 wrong). There are a few flaws regarding this method.

1) Lecturers who test the same thing as what they tested in internals

2) Lecturers being new to the unit

Regarding point 1: Given that something is tested in the internals, its only logical to think that they will not test the same thing again, especially when there is some much other theories to test the student to ensure that the student understands the unit.

Of course, if they test the same thing, I would be able to write the answers out since I have done it before. However, due to the time lapse from the last time I did it, I would not be able to write out a perfect answer since I did not really prepare for it as well. Since my exam preparation was geared towards the theories that did not come out, I would not be able to apply my knowledge of those theories which I studied for the final examination.

Examples would be LAW121 Intro to Law, BMA101 Intro to Management, BEA286 Investment Analysis. A lot of my friends scored well for this 3 units, me being the only exception since my study method wasn’t geared towards the theories that did not come out. In fact, I consider those 3 to be the easier units… maybe that’s why I did not pay as much attention to them. 

Regarding Point 2, since the lecturer is new, it means that they did not set the past exam paper. Besides, since the lecturer is human, he or she would want to radically change the way students are being tested in the finals to show that he is different from the previous lecturer. The old exams paper I studied and memorised is no longer relevant. I learnt this the HARD way last semester after obtaining the results today. If I were more studious in college, or more diligent in my studying now, I probably would have known it or never needed to know it.

Given that, I obviously need to change my method of studying to ensure I meet my target GPA of 6.5 . This will be extremly time consuming though.

This are the next 4 units I am studying. Given that BEA130 is an introductory unit which I should have taken before moving to the more complicated units, I am sure I will ace it. BEA380 and BEA384 may be hard since I have no idea what it is about. BFA204 may be hard as well since its an accounting unit which I have to study for my finance major. It will be similar to the BEA325 marketing/econs unit which I had hell with since I do not know any marketing way of thinking, I am only well associated with the logic of economical thinking.

It’s not logical to do such a thing…by giving a lump sum subsidy thats less than before, it definitely will lower the indifference curve (families will gain less), but they base it on the fact that all the money would be spent on childcare and give the subsidy based of that fact.

IF YOU REDUCE THE GOD DAMN LUMP SUM, they will BE ABLE TO PURCHASE LESS ITEMS THAN BEFORE! how can that make families as well-off but costing the government less? stop it with your warped logic, and stop trying to make me memorise this warped logic in order to score HDs =(

ok i rant enough already, time to memorise a whole textbook of weird reasoning infront of me.

To try to obtain a better gameplay, I trained handshake grip and learnt backhand, but that doesn’t seem to help much. I started playing because I love the control I have over the entire table, to manipulate the ball, place it where I know it can’t be hit back, but now it feels as though I can’t control the game anymore. I lack confidence now and this feeling sucks.

For example, yesterday someone kept commenting that his table tennis balls are better and that we should use his. Normally in the past, I wouldn’t mind since I can keep mine for future use. But the tone and the way he said it make me feel otherwise, which I normally wouldn’t be agitated by such an insignificant comment. Then another person said that my table tennis balls are cursed because he kept losing while holding one of my balls. Instead of laughing it off, I took the ball and won the next 2 games against him while holding the ‘cursed ball’. Overall, I lost 5 matches out of 10 that I played. I really dislike losing at one of my favourite sports.

Of course, do you think I will just rant without thinking of some stuff to improve my gameplay?

1) I’m going to mimick and copy some good serves from national players, from the angle which they serve to their posture, their expression and their body movement.

2) I’m not going to be a defender, content with blocking every ball back to the opposition table until he makes a mistakes and losses. Instead, I’m going to be an aggressive blocker, blocking while thinking of setting up my own smash, to put pressure on my opponents.

3) I’m going to laugh off all the sarcasm and innuendoes and play table tennis for fun.

4) I’m only going to play table tennis on days where I don’t do my own PT regime. After PT, my reaction time is drastically slower and my mind is not as focused. Imagine trying to hit the ball after you did 10 sets of 50 push-ups and 5 sets of 15 pull-ups with aching back muscles just a couple of hours ago. I will put table tennis and my PT on the same day.

I also got myself a new phone, Samsung ultra touch. I chose the most expensive phone possible for a $29 monthly plan for 24 months(total of $696 minimum). I ended with Virgin Mobile as my operator and a $29 plan cap, giving me $150 rollover credit, free calls and messages to any other virgin mobile users. If I were to choose any other mobile operator, I would have to take the $49 cap for this phone. Do I think I got the best deal? Of course! Why would I get this phone otherwise?!

You might be wondering why I got this phone instead of an Iphone right? Assuming I get an Iphone pre-paid, it would cost $899 as a handset price(16gb). Thats even more expensive then my $29 monthly plans for 24 months. Don’t kid yourself, a postpaid plan wouldn’t make it cheaper than my Samsung ultratouch. If you had bought an iphone, you are definitely richer than me. Or maybe you just want to show that you are rich enough to have an iPhone even though that probably sucked up all the money you have in your bank account. Don’t kid yourself, getting an iPhone doesn’t automatically make you cool either. But being the nice person I am, I assume that those who get iPhone are people who appreciate State-of-the-art phones and willing to pay a premium for it;)

Don’t be offended, I am just  jealous of those with iPhones.

It’s not like his pool game is good, if I wanted to copy I won’t even copy a 3rd rate player like him?!!?! and besides, I am totally different from him. FUCKING HELL! LOOK AT YOUR FUCKING SELF IN THE FUCKING MIRROR FIRST!! Somemore, he was demeaning me the whole damn time, as though trying to boost his fucking self confidence up by putting others down. WTF, he act as though he is damn cool and confident.

PLEASE LAH, being cool is not about how you perceive your own fucking self. It’s how other people perceive you. Just because you act as though you damn confident doesn’t mean nothing unless thats what other people think you are. AND FURTHERMORE, 23 already still want to ‘ACT COOL’. GROW UP, BOY!

AGE doesn’t fucking matter when you go out to work. Position matters. Doesn’t matter whether you are older or younger, the position you hold when you work shows it all.

AND YES, I GOT AGITATED BY THAT ARSHOLE. BUT I PROBABLY WONT BE PLAYING MUCH POOL WITH HIM ANYMORE, I WOULD RATHER FIND SOMEONE BETTER TO PLAY AGAINST.

Lets say we have a very hard-working friend called Tom and an average person called Dick.

Tom did not have the chance to be educated and work multiple casual jobs at around minimum-wage levels, working around 13-14 hours a day, earning $200-$225 a day, making around $6,000 a month.

Dick works 40 hours per week and earns the same as Tom per year.

As everyone knows that life is unfair, some people probably never get the opportunity to get educated even now. So is it fair to tax Tom and the same rate Dick is being taxed? What if the government taxes people on the amount of money they earn per hour rather than the amount of money that they earn overall?

This might perhaps motivate people to work harder to become richer and work towards their ideal lifestyle.  It can also be applied to unemployment benefits, etc. Those who don’t constantly go out and prove that they are looking for jobs should be given less unemployment benefits, unless they are single-parent, disabled, with loads of kids, etc.

It would also be able to help reduce the gap between the poor and the filthy rich by taxing the rich a bit more. It is definitely unfair to tax the rich more on the pretext of helping the poor, but if the poor are motivated to look for work and rely less on payments, it might help society more as a whole.

But while the system still lasts, I’m going to apply for unemployment benefit if I’m still jobless at the age of 21. I applied jobs to accomodation services, coles and woolworths and got rejected by all yesterday, it was quite depressing. I guess that there are alot of people looking for jobs out there, or they cannot pronounce my chinese name and skip past my application; maybe I should get an english name.

Well, I’m going to keep a look out for more jobs. I don’t know whether anyone have come out with this idea on taxing people based on their wages/ hour, but I feel that this perhaps might be the best way to improve society in australia economy as a whole

This is an example, level 16 typing maniac to reach 520k score, which most people reach at level 22-23, as according to my friend’s scores. This means that you do not have to complete as many levels in order to obtain a higher score, which will increase your chance of obtaining a high score.

But just wait and see, I’m going to reach 2million! Just wait for my news

Anyway, I settled my enrolment already.

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday is Lectures day while Tuesday is Tutorial day. I hope to be able to find a job soon as well. I heard that it is necessary to apply for a Tax File Number when doing a job or they will charge you tax at the highest rate- 47%. It’s crazy shit! Maybe I should just apply for the Job Seeker Benefit and be one of those shitheads who are able to work  and yet lazy to do so. It’s quite appealing, free money!

My next goal is to get all the textbooks ready and try applying for jobs. Unfortunately for me, the most I am willing to search is within a 3km radius, any further and it will be too hard to get to work due to my lack of transport. If you don’t understand my logic behind it, 3km = 15minutes jog, so I can cancel my runs and just run to work.

Well, who knows? I aim to get HD for all my units this semester though. That definitely will require consistent work and not piling everything up to the last minute. I might even go down to the kitchen to cook for real; real cooking. I have been surviving with a rice cooker and microwave oven. There is no fridge in my room. I have been a bit stingy to spare the extra $150 required in order to purchase a fridge, or loan one for a year. I feel that the money can be put to better uses instead.

Now I have to book my tutorials which I have been procastinating lately, and hopefully find a part-time job so I can start earning more, and save more as well. You don’t need to point out if you think that I think like someone in his thirties. I also think that my way of thinking is abit old as well sometimes, but since I don’t care about it, you shouldn’t care much too.

A few tips for those who are quite poor at the game:

1) The first few levels are for you to get high scores, make perfect levels to get double the score results, this will boost your overall score where it really matters. Another reason for this is because when you chain alot of words together, you will get the “excellent” written. When its written, the points you gain is much higher than the “great”. The first 15 levels for me is to get as much perfect rounds as possible.

2) Choose your magic books, for the first 15 levels, you don’t really need wind. After that you will need at least 3 wind in your inventory to save yourself should you suddenly “lose focus” and for the long period of time when no “wind” drops.

3) Combine the magic books, for example slow and fire. When you use the “slow” magic book, take the time to remove all the words dropping down the screen fast and short 5-7 letter words. Then the screen will be filled with a lot of long complicated words. Use fire to clear the entire screen.

4) Use magic books at the correct time, when you have an ICE in your inventory and you see an ice coming down the screen, just type that word in and use your ICE magic book. This enables your inventory to be the same and freeze the screen at the same time.

5) Use Full-Screen, and Press Ctrl + Scroll Up in order to make the game bigger so that the letters will be clearer. This greatly reduces the amount of mistakes that you make in the gameplay.

6) Note that the grey color words drop immediately if you mis-spell them, so when you have a pile of paper on the flow, almost over-flowing, it might be safer to type other words.

7) At the higher levels, you might want to start the level using a SLOW magic book. This allows you to clear the first 10 letters easier and closer to reaching the next level. There’s a decent chance another SLOW magic book can be obtained during that level as well.

8) Speaking from experience, its best to keep 4-5 wind in your inventory at all times, it will be enough for you to last 2-3 levels when no WIND magic book drops down, you might still be able to survive

Last but not least, you got to focus in the game, once you lose your focus, the words come flying down so fast it might be hard to cover up your lack of focus. Try screening a certain part of the screen, for example the middle to top half.

I started Typing Maniac 4 days ago and now my score is a decent 1.75 million. I believe that there’s still a lot about this game that I have yet to notice and my aim is to get a score of 2 million or enter the top 100 players in Typing Maniac world-wide.
